CBGB, New York City : The legendary birthplace of punk rock !

" Lux Interior videotaped while performing with The Cramps at CBGB’s ca.1978, as documented by Rich Verdi.
It may now come as a surprise to some but in those days of the early punk scene, part of the audience still preferred to enjoy the gigs seated at the chairs & tables of the legendary dive bar that became the birthplace of punk. "

" The (Un)Dead Boy: Johnny Blitz, drummer for The Dead Boys & former Rocket From The Tombs member, photographed between friends by Godlis at CBGB’s in 1977.
Blitz is a street tough motherfucker who survived being slashed open and stabbed 17 times during a knife fight with a carload of Puerto Ricans, while he was trying to protect his pal and Blondie roadie Michael Sticca, on their way home from CBGB’s one night in 1978 (here are the details of how this incident went down from.‘Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk)
To help raise money for his medical care, the CBGB community rallied with a 4-day event, the Blitz Benefit, with more than 30 bands performing and even John Belushi sitting in on drums with the Dead Boys. With Johnny Blitz hospitalized for months, the Dead Boys sputtered to their death by 1979. "
